What to expect in therapy with Brian

First of all, you can expect to meet with a warm, open, gentle, respectful, and ethical professional who takes his work – not himself – seriously, and who is also in touch with the lighter side of life. I meet clients where they are, in the moment, both emotionally, spiritually, and holistically. Sessions move at a pace that the client is comfortable with.
"I came to Brian at a roadblock in my life where I didn't know where to go next. His gentle and insightful questions helped me find the tools and fresh perspective I needed to move ahead. If you are serious about making a change in your life, I would definitely recommend giving Brian a call."
Warren, Vancouver BC
Within the overall context of Conscious Reality Therapy, I offer Life Coaching for personal, career, and spiritual growth concerns; short-term (brief) Counselling targeted at specific challenges being experienced; and also, longer-term Psychotherapy, in which we go deeper into the root cause of suffering, with an aim to develop an on-going way of being, in which one is relaxed and content with life “as it is.”
But, you may ask, why would I want to live life “as it is” when that’s what has been causing me to suffer. The truth is actually the reverse. We suffer when we resist “what is” in life. Carl Jung said a very profound truth many years ago that still resonates to this day: “what we resist, persists.”
When we create a list of “shoulds” and “should nots,” we cause mental anguish. Fighting with “what is” (i.e. reality) is guaranteed to result in suffering. Once we learn to relax into the reality of each moment, we might then, from that calm and open space, take some kind of appropriate action that modifies our current situation. However, this action will then be coming from a spontaneous and skillful perspective, rather than a reactive impulse based on our unconscious conditioning. As a result, we are actually more available for ourselves, and for others.
During the first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy, what your desired outcomes might be, and see if we can arrive at an estimate of the number of sessions that may be required. Often only a few sessions are required; at other times a longer course of therapy might be indicated. This is not an exact science, but rather something we can work towards collaboratively.

What Kinds of Issues can I bring to Counselling?
Because Conscious Reality Therapy goes to the root of all psychological suffering, essentially all issues can be addressed, including: depression, anxiety, stress, addictions, childhood abuses, trauma, existential angst, spiritual confusion or longing, etc.
I provide Life Coaching, Counselling and Psychotherapy to individuals and couples. Life Coaching is focused on personal, career, or spiritual growth concerns. Counselling is generally shorter term, issue-specific therapy. Psychotherapy is generally a longer term and deeper approach to therapy.
In addition to my professional training, I bring 30 years of on-going personal, professional, and spiritual growth to my approach to Life Coaching. Clients who are ready to move to the next level of personal, career, or spiritual growth will benefit immensely from my extensive and progressive life experience. I am also a successful entrepreneur who has started and operated three prosperous businesses. I also bring a level of maturity that is often missing in the field of Life Coaching.
